Not all DMS platforms are equally open to third-party integrations. This guide summarizes the integration posture, API availability, and known ecosystem characteristics of the six most commonly deployed DMS platforms in North American franchised dealerships. For a foundational explainer on how integrations work, see What Is DMS Integration?

    CDK Global (CDK Drive)

    Market position
Largest market share in North America, approximately 15,000 retail dealer locations.
    Integration posture
Has historically been more restrictive about third-party API access. CDK's Fortellis platform is its developer marketplace for certified integrations. Third-party vendors typically pay per-transaction or per-dealership fees to integrate via Fortellis, which can create cost overhead for smaller tool vendors.
    Strengths
Deepest OEM certification portfolio, strong enterprise reporting, widely understood by automotive technology vendors.
    Considerations
Integration complexity and cost for third-party tools can be higher than other platforms. Dealers should confirm any third-party tool's specific CDK certification before evaluating.

    Reynolds and Reynolds (ERA-IGNITE)

    Market position
Long-standing major provider, strong presence in large franchise groups.
    Integration posture
Historically the most restrictive platform for third-party integration. Reynolds has required third-party vendors to complete its RCI (Reynolds Certified Interface) program, which involves licensing fees and compliance requirements that limit the field of vendors who pursue it.
    Strengths
Comprehensive core functionality, deep compliance tooling, strong F&I workflow.
    Considerations
Dealerships on Reynolds should expect a narrower ecosystem of third-party tools with verified integration compared to more open platforms.

    Dealertrack (Cox Automotive)

    Market position
Second-largest market share; widely deployed across independent and franchise dealers.
    Integration posture
More open than CDK or Reynolds. Cox Automotive's Opentrack initiative allows third-party partners to access DMS data without the high per-transaction fees associated with other platforms. Cox's broader portfolio (VinSolutions CRM, vAuto, Xtime) integrates natively.
    Strengths
Strong third-party ecosystem, competitive pricing for integrations, Cox portfolio synergy.
    Considerations
Dealerships outside the Cox ecosystem should confirm integration depth for non-Cox tools, as native integrations are naturally prioritized.

    PBS Systems

    Market position
Strong presence in the Canadian market with growing U.S. footprint. Serves 3,000+ dealerships across North America.
    Integration posture
Generally considered open and integration-friendly. Recent partnership activity, including CarAI and Viova, indicates an active integration ecosystem on the AI voice and messaging side.
    Strengths
Purpose-built for Canadian regulatory compliance and bilingual operations; strong for franchise groups operating across both U.S. and Canadian markets.
    Considerations
Smaller U.S. vendor ecosystem than CDK or Dealertrack; dealers should confirm specific tool compatibility.

    Quorum DMS

    Market position
Mid-market, dealer-focused DMS with strong adoption among GM, Ford, and other franchised stores across Canada and the U.S. Privately held and operationally close to its customer base.
    Integration posture
Open and partnership-driven. Quorum offers an end-to-end suite spanning fixed ops, variable ops, accounting, communications, and analytics, and has invested directly in AI through MORI, its own AI voice agent for inbound service calls. Third-party integration depth varies by category and is best confirmed through Quorum directly, particularly for tools that overlap with native Quorum modules.
    Strengths
Tightly integrated native modules across departments, real-time cross-department visibility, strong customer success and training reputation, and a quoting workflow that customers consistently call out as a differentiator. The MORI AI voice agent gives dealers a Quorum-native option for after-hours and overflow call handling.
    Considerations
Smaller third-party marketplace than CDK or Dealertrack. Dealers should weigh the breadth of native Quorum capability against the third-party tools they specifically want to layer on, since some categories may already be covered natively.

    Tekion (Automotive Retail Cloud)

    Market position
Growing disruptor running on Tekion's cloud-native platform, currently serving a smaller but rapidly expanding base. Backed by GM, BMW, Hyundai, and Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi.
    Integration posture
Cloud-native, modern API architecture. Third-party integration is technically simpler than legacy platforms, though the ecosystem is still developing relative to CDK and Reynolds.
    Strengths
Modern UX, AI-native design, real-time data architecture. Lower integration friction for cloud-based tools.
    Considerations
Smaller certification ecosystem for now; dealers evaluating Tekion should confirm which specific third-party tools have completed Tekion integration.

    Autosoft DMS

    Market position
Focused on low-to-mid volume franchised dealerships. 200+ certified integrations, 35+ OEM certifications.
    Integration posture
Open and integration-friendly. Autosoft has built a large third-party integration ecosystem and is frequently recognized for its openness relative to platform size.
    Strengths
Intuitive UI, strong customer support, robust third-party ecosystem for a mid-market platform. Competitive pricing.
    Considerations
Less suited to high-volume multi-rooftop groups with complex enterprise reporting requirements.
